We are seeking two educators (licensed teacher and non-licensed coordinator) to fill out our team who have the passion, commitment, flexibility and professionalism to work with a school in vibrant--and occasionally challenging-- transition. Grades: 9-12
Description of Position:
You will provide educational diretion for students in the Kenosha Unified School District boundaries. You will be responsible for planning, preparation, and instruction of all required course work within your assigned module of education and level. You will be expected to create a quailty classroom environment in accordance with the standard of the school, school district and Expeditionary Learning. Description of School:
Reuther EL school is a special school in Kenosha, Wisconsin. It is located in downtown Kenosha less than 1 mile from Lake Michigan. The building is adjacent to what was formerly the only major route between Milwaukee and Chicago. The beautiful waters of Lake Michigan can be seen from the rooftop of the Roman and Corinthian influenced structure.
Kenosha is a very blue-collar community. Since its beginning it has been known as a town that survived on its manufacturing. Companies like American Motors, Chrysler, Snap-On, Jockey, and American Brass have been some of the major industries out of Kenosha. The influx and departure of these industries are some of the reason for the lack of ethnic diversity in Kenosha. That lack of different ethnicities is reflected in the demographics of Reuther. About 50% of the student body is Caucasian, 35% African American and 15% Hispanic/Other.
In April of 1975 Reuther, a non-boundary school, was opened as a school of choice. Contrary to present perceptions, enrollment to RCHS is voluntary. After a few years of observations, the relatively new principal to Reuther decided there was a better way to educate the at-risk population. Reuther adopted a school-within-a-school approach. This organizational change was to create various classroom settings in which non-traditional students could still have their needs met. Expeditionary Learning is one of those small schools. Presently Reuther serves about 600 students of varied economic and ethnic backgrounds with EL students numbering about 150.
How to Apply:
- Apply online at www.kusd.edu
- Contact Daniel Tenuta (Principal) for more details and to set up an interview
- Come prepared to plan a lesson using EL strategies in the mathematics classroom
- Come prepared to revise student work using 6 + 1 Traits of writing
